Start with how your company will use its website. Who publishes services and case studies? Where does product information come from? What must visitors be able to do? Who maintains the result after launch?
Nuxt is a framework for building web interfaces and applications. WordPress is a content management system with an editor and extension options. Compare the complete proposed solution: its interface, editorial workflow, integrations and operation.
Check the editor's actual work
Ask the developer to demonstrate the operations your team needs: create a service, add a case study, replace an image, preview a page and edit its metadata. A CMS name alone does not confirm that all of these are included.
A Nuxt proposal must specify the content source and editing interface. That could be a CMS or a file-based publishing workflow if it suits the people responsible for content. A WordPress proposal still needs agreed content types, fields, permissions and editing boundaries.
Consider a hypothetical equipment supplier. Product specifications arrive from a business system, while articles are written manually. These are two workflows: catalog data exchange and editorial publishing. A single line saying “admin panel” does not describe both.
Understand how the website runs
Nuxt supports server rendering, client rendering and hybrid approaches. The appropriate setup depends on the data and behaviour of the pages. Using Nuxt does not mean there is no server or database. Nuxt rendering modes.
Ask where the application runs, how updates become visible, what happens when an external service fails and how operation is restored. The answer should describe your project rather than a generic platform benefit.
Nuxt and WordPress can also be combined. WordPress can provide content through its REST API while a separate frontend displays it. This headless approach needs an explicit plan for previews, routes and publishing; separation is not automatically an improvement. WordPress REST API.
Compare business scenarios
| Scenario | What the proposal should explain | Decision criterion |
|---|---|---|
| Frequent articles and case studies | Editing, drafts, media and permissions | The content owner can complete routine work without a developer |
| A custom marketing website | Page templates, states, responsive behaviour and CMS | Design and content management are specified together |
| CRM and catalog connections | APIs, validation, retries and failure handling | Data exchange can be tested and failures have an owner |
| Multiple languages | URLs, translated fields, switching and editorial roles | Preparing and maintaining each version is understood |
| An existing working website | Migration, compatibility and editor training | The benefit of a technology change justifies the transition |
These are hypothetical scenarios, not platform rankings. WordPress supports custom development; Nuxt still requires an editorial solution. In either case, check the actual scope.
Measure performance on representative pages
A technology name does not guarantee a fast website. Images, fonts, scripts, external services, data access and visitor conditions all affect the result.
Agree on the pages and measurement conditions: device, connection, test method and date. Also check real tasks such as opening navigation, finding information and submitting a form. Comparing an empty template with a populated production website is not a useful purchasing test.
See our guide to website performance for measurement considerations.
Both solutions require security work and maintenance
Every project has dependencies, accounts, hosting configuration and data handling. WordPress maintenance includes updates, access control, trusted extensions and backups. Its official guidance treats security as risk reduction. Hardening WordPress.
A Nuxt solution also needs attention to server routes, external APIs, dependencies, secrets and access permissions. Custom development is not immunity from vulnerabilities.
Before launch, establish who updates components, verifies recovery, receives error reports and decides on improvements. Include those responsibilities when comparing ongoing costs.
Ask for evidence before deciding
Build a short requirements table and record the demonstration or document that supports each item:
- Editors can create and update the required content types.
- Visitors can complete key tasks on mobile and desktop.
- Integrations have defined failure behaviour.
- Language versions have a workable publishing process.
- Hosting, maintenance and project handover are documented.
If an answer is unknown, keep it as an open question. “Built with Nuxt” or “runs on WordPress” does not settle these requirements.
